AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — The busiest part of the year for Maine's bear hunt is entering its final days while the seasons for deer and moose draw closer.

Most Maine bear hunting takes place during the season in which it's legal to use bait. The bait season ends on Sept. 22. It's still legal to hunt bears until Nov. 24, though the season slows down considerably.

The season for hunting moose gets started on Sept. 24. It's broken up into four segments, and the final one ends on Nov. 24. The deer hunt begins with the archery season on Sept. 29. Deer hunting with archery, firearms and muzzleloaders is wrapped up by Dec. 8.

The state's "expanded archery" season that allows some deer hunting near urban areas is currently taking place.
