How Diverse Is The State Of Maine?

Diversity has become a fairly well-known phrase in our society, especially over the last 20 years or so. Where does Maine check in?

Diversity comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, our friends at the personal-finance website WalletHub.com decided to do an in-depth analysis of the most and least diverse states in the Union.

They measured how diverse a state was based on population, socio-economic, cultural, household, religious, and political diversity.

We also need to factor in where these states are in relation to other countries.

For instance, California borders Mexico, therefore it's probable that the population of Mexican people in the Golden State will be more prolific than in Maine.

Here are some of WalletHub's findings on diversity in some of the individual states.

Hawaii - This state was found to have the highest racial and ethnic diversity, which is 3.1 times higher than in Maine. Maine has the lowest racial and ethnic diversity.

California - This state was found to have the highest language diversity, which is 2.3 times higher than in West Virginia, which is the state with the lowest language diversity.

North Dakota - This state was found to have the highest religious diversity, which is two times higher than Maine. Maine is the state with the lowest numbers in religious diversity.

Note: According to the Association of Religious Data Archives, Maine's Christian religious affiliations show that 37-percent claim Protestant, 28-percent are Catholic, and 4-percent are Evangelical Protestant.
