The defending state champion George Stevens Academy Eagles outgunned Fort Fairfield 20-6 in the fourth quarter to clinch what was a close Class C North final with the Tigers.

The Tigers gave the Eagles all they could handle through three quarters, with the game tied at 39 heading into the fourth quarter. But the Eagles' experience in big games kicked in during the final quarter, and the veteran squad was able to pull away on their way to a 59-45 win.

Junior Taylor Schildroth finished with 26 points. From there it was a balanced attack with Stefan Simmons scoring 11 points, Jarrod Chase scoring 10 points and Max Mattson scoring eight points. After knocking off the top seed in the semifinals, the underdog Dexter Tigers ousted No. 2 George Stevens Academy Saturday night to claim the Class C North crown at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

George Stevens cut the lead to three points with less than a minute to go in the contest, but the No. 5 Tigers were able to hold on to a 35-32 victory after the Eagles couldn't get a shot off before the final buzzer sounded.

The MDI Trojans used stifling man-to-man defense to keep the Orono scoring attack in check and come away with a regional title and a trip to the state title game next week.

The No. 2 Trojans' relentless defense along with a balanced offensive effort led them to a 42-34 win over the No. 4 Red Riots Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Orono was able to cut the lead to two points with 1:31 left on a Jackson Coutts thee-pointer, but that was a close as the Red Riots would come as MDI was able to hit key shots in the final minute to seal the win. >>GO TO STORY>>

The defending state champion Houlton Shiretowners were able to hold off the Foxcroft Academy Ponies Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor to claim their third straight regional title.

No. 3 Foxcroft was able to tie the game at 29 midway through the fourth quarter, but the top-seed Houlton was able to extend its lead and finish with a 42-31 final score and a Class B North title.

Junior Kolleen Bouchard led the 20-1 Shiretowners with 16 points. Aspen Flewelling and Rylee Warman each had six points. >>GO TO STORY>>

It was a Downeast sweep in Class D North Saturday morning, with the Machias Bulldogs earning a spot in the state finals after pulling away from Southern Aroostook in the second half.

The No. 2 Bulldogs (20-1) led by just two points at the half, but opened up a 20-point lead in the second half on their way to a 43-31 win

The Shead High School Tigers retained their regional crown Saturday morning after edging the top-seed Southern Aroostook team at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

It was a tight game throughout, tied at 23 after three quarters, but the No. 2 Tigers (19-2) were able to hold on to a 32-29 win and earn a spot in the state finals.

Holly Preston sealed the game with a layup off a steal with just seconds left on the clock. Preston, a senior, finished with 14 points. Madison Greenlaw added 10 points. >>GO TO STORY>>
