George Stevens Academy showed why they are the top seed in the Class C tournament, overpowering the Schenck Wolverines in final game of Friday night at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

With the 68-39 win, the Eagles punched their ticket to the Northern Maine finals on Satruday against the Bucksport Golden Bucks (16-4.)

The Eagles proved too much for the smaller Wolverines, rolling to a 33-16 lead at halftime and not looking back.

George Stevens, of Blue Hill, improves to 19-1, their only loss coming to the Ellsworth Eagles, who will play in the Class B North finals on Saturday against Orono.

The Bucksport Golden Bucks held off the No. 7 Hodgdon Hawks Friday night at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor to advance to the Class C North finals.

The No. 3 Golden Bucks opened up a lead in the fourth quarter, keeping the Hawks offense in check, and sealing a 49-44 win with late free throws.

Tyler Pye led Bucksport in scoring with 18 points.Riley McLeod had 17 points and Kyle Jackson added 10.

For Hodgdon, Jimmy Buzzell finished with 19 points. Daden Palmer had 16 points.

It's the first time Bucksport has played in a regional final since 2002.

Bucksport will play next at 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center against the winner of No. 1 George Stevens Academy and No. 5 Schenck.

Penobscot Valley Howlers Oust Top-Seed Fort Fairfield in C North Semifinal

The Penobscot Valley Howlers ousted the top-ranked Fort Fairfield Tigers Friday afternoon, earning a spot in the Class C North final in Bangor on Saturday.

No. 4 Howlers opened up a double-digit lead late in the fourth quarter, and withstood a late Fort Fairfield run on their way to a 47-34 win.

Senior Samantha Ireland led the Howlers in scoring with 15 points. Amy Hallett had 12 points for the Howlers before fouling out with 2:29 to go. Junior Elizabeth McKinnon added 11 points.

Seniors Chelsey Pelkey and Kayla Giberson each finished with 9 points for the Tigers.

Penobscot Valley, of Howland, will take on the Narraguagus Knights for the regional championship at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Narraguagus Knights Stifle Dexter Tigers On Way To Class C Final

The Narraguagus girls on Friday booked their ticket to the Class C regional final after dispatching with the Dexter Tigers at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The No. 3 Lady Knights' pressing defense gave No. 2 Dexter trouble the entire game, helping them secure a 39-24 victory.

Dexter's 6'1" center, Megan Peach, found herself in early foul trouble and on the bench for much of the first half. The junior's absence allowed Narraguagus to build a lead, one they never surrendered.

Senior center Kelli Kennedy led the Knights with 16 points.

The Knights were last in the regional title game in 1992 when they lost to Schenck. Narraguagus has never won a regional championship.

Narraguagus will take on Penobscot Valley for the regional championship at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
