Lindsay Lohan Defends Harvey Weinstein As More Stars Speak Out Against the Studio Mogul
In the wake of multiple sexual assault allegations against former Weinstein Company head Harvey Weinstein, most in Hollywood have been speaking out all week against his behavior. So, it came as a bit of a surprise when Lindsay Lohan posted (and then deleted) an Instagram Story from her account on Wednesday night defending him.
“I feel very bad for Harvey Weinstein right now,” Lohan says in the clip. “I don’t think it’s right what’s going on. I think Georgina [Chapman] needs to take a stand and be there for her husband.” Chapman announced yesterday in a statement to People that she was leaving Weinstein: “My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions.” Lohan starred in Weinstein Company films Bobby and Scary Movie 5, as well as Paul Schrader’s The Canyons which almost ended up with TWC, as the director revealed in an odd Facebook post yesterday. Meanwhile, others in Hollywood have made their stances clear. Meryl Streep called Weinstein’s behavior “inexcusable,” Jennifer Lawrence thanked the women who shared their stories, Colin Firth said that he felt “nausea“ reading the statements against Weinstein, director Ryan Coogler said that he is “disturbed and saddened,” the Obamas said they are “disgusted,” Benedict Cumberbatch called Weinstein’s actions “horrifying and unforgivable,” and Charlize Theron said that though she herself never experienced it, she wasn’t surprised by the allegations Theron told The Hollywood Reporter, “This culture has always existed, not just in Hollywood but across the world. And many men in positions of power have gotten away with it for far too long.” Leonardo DiCaprio also released a statement on Twitter last night:
Weinstein, who, according to The Hollywood Reporter, has been suspended from BAFTA as of Wednesday, is seeking treatment after the scandal at a residential facility in Europe.
