Did You Catch Those Maine References in Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’?
The final season of "Stranger Things" has arrived, with Season 5, Part 2 hitting streaming services on Christmas Day and the finale on New Year's Eve.
It's wild to think that the hit Netflix show that started almost 10 years ago is coming to an end. Those kids aren't kids anymore!
While the show is set in Indiana, the series, with its small-town vibes and supernatural thrills, certainly feels like it could just as easily be set in Maine. The "Stranger Things" creators have even mentioned Stephen King influences, so it would totally make sense.
But did you realize that Maine actually gets a few blink-and-you'll-miss-it mentions in the show?
Maine Was Mentioned in "Stranger Things"
You'll have to rewind and head back to season two of "Stranger Things" for the Maine nods.
It all stems from Bob, the boyfriend of Joyce Byers, played by "The Lord of the Rings" and "Goonies" star Sean Astin.
In the season, he mentions Maine as the place they should move to in order to get a fresh start. You can catch one of the moments in season two, episode six.
"It's not like you didn't warn me. 'This is not a normal family.' Isn't that what you said? You weren't kidding. Kind of makes my idea of moving to Maine sound a little less crazy right?"
Definitely not a crazy idea!
Of course, Maine is a great option because it still has those cozy small-town vibes, it has the amazing natural beauty, and some delicious fresh local food. Lobster roll heaven!
It’s totally the type of place you’d want to escape to, whether from the Upside Down or just the stress of everyday life.
Bob Mentions a Scary Clown in "Stranger Things"
Hopefully, the Maine in "Stranger Things" is free from Stephen King's horrors like the killer clown in "It." After all, Bob makes a clear nod to King’s "It" when he shares a story about being scared by a clown as a kid.
Imagine going from one scary creature to the next!

Sadly, there is no move to Maine, and the characters are still in Hawkins just trying to survive before it all comes to an end.
So yes, the Maine references are quick and brief, but they are a fun nod for any New Englander watching. You might have even missed them the first time you were catching the show. Too bad Bob's dream of heading to Vacationland didn't work out...
Are you enjoying "Stranger Things"? How do you hope it all ends?
