A home intruder was unsuccessful when trying to break into a Caribou home early Tuesday morning. The homeowner held the man at gunpoint until police arrived.

According to the Caribou Police Department, 27-year old Dakota Michaud, of Caribou, entered a garage that was attached to a home on the Lombard Road in Caribou at about 3:24 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

According to the homeowner, Michaud was trying to break into his house through an attached garage, so he grabbed his gun and held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

Once police arrived, the homeowner said that Michaud had entered his garage and began pounding on the door leading into the house which woke him up.

There were signs that Michaud had been under the influence of some type of hallucinogenic drug.

Michaud was charged with criminal trespass and was bailed out.

His court date is scheduled for January 10, 2019.
