A 38-year-old Hanwell, New Brunswick man, who is a member of the Fredericton Police force, has been charged following an investigation into reports of theft and fraud against the New Brunswick Police Association. 

Fredericton Police Constable Michael Craig Cook has been charged with one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of fraud over $5,000.

The offences, relating to misappropriation of funds, are alleged to have occurred between October 2012 and February 2015, while he was serving as the Treasurer of the N.B. Police Association.

RCMP laid the two charges against Cook in Fredericton provincial court on Thursday.

Cook, who is currently suspended from the Fredericton Police, did not attend. His first scheduled appearance is February 1 at 9:30 a.m.
