If you file for unemployment insurance, you may be targeted, or already have been targeted, by scammers.

The Maine Department of Labor is warning people to be aware of fake websites that offer help with filing for unemployment insurance.

None of the websites are affiliated with the Labor Department. Officials say claims should only be filed through the department's own website or by phone by the claimant.

According to officials, the information asked for includes Social Security numbers and credit card numbers. The Labor Department adds it is not aware how the people behind these fake websites use the information gathered.
