Get Your First Look at Michael Fassbender in Serial Killer Thriller ‘The Snowman’
Because Hollywood continues to keep him employed and because he’s got a symmetrical, reassuring face, it’s easy to forget that Michael Fassbender’s had something of a rough year. He started 2016 off by losing the Academy Award in February, having been nominated for the already-aging-poorly Steve Jobs. He then served up a hat trick of poorly reviewed roles in X-Men: Apocalypse (yikes), The Light Between Oceans (double yikes), and Assassin’s Creed (inadvertently fun in a goofy way, but mostly yikes). He‘s geared to get back on track in 2017, however, with the festival-vetted family crime drama Trespass Against Us slated for a release later this month and the more hotly anticipated The Snowman on the way as well.
Today brings the first look at the latter project, with a new still from the serial-killer thriller now available to the public. The Film Stage has posted a pair of screenshots from the next issue of Total Film, showing Fassbender looking rather distraught while tromping around a snowy wasteland. Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson (the mind behind vampire drama Let the Right One In and espionage thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) cast Fassbender as detective Harry Hole, an alcoholic lawman hot on the trail of a serial killer leaving corpses inside snowmen. The good news: Fassbender has described the film as a “Scandi-noir,” and his quote in Digital Spy made the picture sound like something in the vein of Chinatown. The bad news: Harry Hole is not pronounced like you think. He’s supposed to be Swedish, so it’s really more like hoo-lih. But you take the good with the bad.
Below, the Film Stage‘s tweet shows one photo and links to the page containing the other. Looks like it’s gonna be a chilly year.
