Maine's only female competitor at the Winter Olympics in South Korea, Clare Egan from Cape Elizabeth, has finished in 61st place in her first event. The women's 7.5km Biathlon Sprint.

Egan was the second highest finishing American. Her time was 23:56.1.

There were 87 competitors in the biathlon event that combines the skills of cross country skiing and rifle marksmenship.

German Laura Dahlmeier won the gold medal.

NOTE: Stockholm, Maine biathlete Russell Currier did not compete in the first men's event, the 10km Biathlon Sprint...There are five men's and five women's olympic events, plus one mixed event with competition continuing through February 23rd.
