It was only yesterday we read the writing on the TARDIS to learn that Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi would leave the series behind in 2017, and The BBC is already marking the beginning of the end. Season 10 has an official April premiere date, along with the U.S. debut of young adult spinoff Class.

In addition to news that Capaldi’s Doctor would regenerate into a new actor during the 2017 Christmas special, The BBC America confirms that Doctor Who Season 10 will premiere on Saturday, April 15 at 9:00 P.M. Immediately afterward will see the stateside debut of Class, from writer Patrick Ness.

Here’s what departing showrunner Steven Moffat had to say of Capaldi’s exit:

For years before I ever imagined being involved in Doctor Who, or had ever met the man, I wanted to work with Peter Capaldi. I could not have imagined that one day we’d be standing on the TARDIS together. Like Peter, I’m facing up to leaving the best job I’ll ever have, but knowing I do so in the company of the best, and kindest and cleverest of men, makes the saddest of endings a little sweeter. But hey, it’s a long way from over. Peters’ amazing, fiery, turbulent Doctor is still fighting the good fight, and his greatest adventures are yet to come. Monsters of the universe, be on your guard - Capaldi’s not done with you yet!

Elsewhere, in addition to Michelle Gomez’s likely return as Missy, Season 10 will also feature Jekyll & Hyde star Stephanie Hyam in a minor role. Pearl Mackie will also joined in the role of new companion Bill, while Peter Capaldi has suggested Jenna Coleman’s Clara might return in some form. Steven Moffat’s last season was also confirmed for spring 2017, placing Chris Chibnall as the new head writer and executive producer, to begin after Season 10.

We’ll see more soon, but check out the first Season 10 trailer below, and stay tuned.
