I'm not really a 'video game' guy. These days I live vicariously through my kids with the Nintendo 3DS or the Wii. We don't have XBox or Playstation. However, there was a time when I was known to frequent an arcade or two (if you're under 30 and you don't know what an arcade is ask your parents).

I found a cool video of the making of one of my favorite video games, 'Mortal Kombat,' and it brought me back to my teenage years.

This got me thinking about the first gaming series that I was introduced to as a kid. All the cool kids had Atari or Commodore 64. We had 'Odyssey.'

We graduated from that into something called 'Intellevision.'

We had a Texas Instruments computer that had cartridge games.

Finally my parents test drove a short-lived computer called the 'Amiga.' The only thing I remember about it was a nifty flight simulator program that we couldn't drag my brother away from. Today he's a pilot by the way.

Obviously technology has come a long way. Graphics-wise it's incredible stuff. I think of Madden's NFL games and how real they seem. Content-wise I think we've dipped into a dangerous area with adult themes that young kids are chomping at the bit to get their hands on. It makes me want to introduce 'ping-pong' to my kids.
