Rock on the Range replaced missing headliner Soundgarden with a tribute to their fallen lead singer Chris Cornell last night in Columbus, Ohio. Corey Taylor and Christian Martucci of Stone Sour performed Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike" during an acoustic set at the end of the evening.

This was followed by a special video package soundtracked by Cornell's isolated "Black Hole Sun" vocals, which you can see below.

Cornell was found dead on Thursday morning in his MGM Grand Detroit hotel bathroom, just hours after playing the Fox Theatre with Soundgarden. The medical examiner quickly ruled Cornell's death a suicide, though his wife and lawyer have since questioned the role prescription drugs played in this tragedy.

Soundgarden originally was set to appear after Live in the final set on opening night at Rock on the Range, the three-day concert event at Mapfre Stadium. By mid-day on Thursday, Rock on the Range public relations representative Kristine Ashton-Magnuson was promising to fill Soundgarden's slot with an appropriate tribute.

“We are devastated to hear about the sudden passing of Chris Cornell last night,” organizers said in an official statement. “He was a true hero to music, the voice of a generation. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the entire music community. The voice of an angel, now watching down on us as we celebrate and honor him all weekend long.”

Live paid their own tribute to Cornell with a cover of Audioslave's "I Am the Highway." They also told TMZ that the singer's "voice and lyrics came from a deep and spiritual place and their power will be felt forever." The lineup tonight also included Bush, Sum 41 and others.

In another blow to Rock on the Range, Mapfre Stadium was evacuated earlier today when severe weather moved into the area. The music eventually resumed, with start times pushed back.

Repercussions from Cornell's suicide were also felt further down Soundgarden's schedule. Pointfest, which was scheduled for this weekend in St. Louis, was completely cancelled. Soundgarden was set to play there on Saturday, along with their tour mates Dillinger Escape Plan.

“It is with deep regret, we are announcing that due to the sudden passing of Chris Cornell of Soundgarden last night, Pointfest on Saturday is cancelled,” organizers said in an official statement. They also extended their "deepest sympathies to the members of Soundgarden, their crew, management, and the Cornell family."
