There will be several events going on around Aroostook County and Western New Brunswick in honor of Veterans Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in Canada. Here are a few of them:

Presque Isle: On Veterans’ Day, November 11, 2014, beginning at 4:30 p.m., Presque Isle Elks Lodge #1954 will host a free stew night for all military veterans.

Fort Fairfield: This Veterans Day, The Fort Fairfield VFW Post 6187 will present The Eagles Soar Veterans Memorial. The memorial features beautiful stones illustrating scenes of valor, surrounded by flags and walkways of red brick to honor each Veteran. The dedication will take place at 1pm.

Houlton: There will be a Veterans Day Dinner held on Tuesday, November 11 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at the Houlton Elks Lodge #835. It will be a Complimentary Dinner for all Area Veterans and their Spouses. They will be serving up Roast Pork and all the Fixings. Please make plans to attend this yearly Dinner honoring all local Veterans.

Plaster Rock - Remembrance Day March starts at 10:40 a.m. at the Donald Frasier Memorial School continuing towards the cenotaph with services following.

St Leonard - The St. Leonard Legion is organizing a Remembrance Day ceremony starting at 10:45 a.m. at the church. At 11 a.m. there will be a mass and at 5 p.m. there will be a banquet at the KC Hall.

Grand Falls - Remembrance Day Ceremonies start with National Anthem at 10:45 a.m. Reading of Flanders Field 10:50 a.m. Town Police will sound alarm at 11 a.m. with a moment of silence followed by the laying of wreaths.

Perth - Andover - Ceremonies start at the cenotaph at 10:45 a.m. The parade will move to Aroostook to the VFW in Fort Fairfield. There is a banquet at 5 p.m. costing $5 per person. At the Elks in Perth - Andover there will be a breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon. Admission is $7 with proceeds go to the Good Samaritans food bank.
