Caribou Man Charged With Trafficking in Cocaine
A Caribou man has been charged with felony trafficking in cocaine following an investigation that culminated in a search of his home by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Over the past several weeks, the MDEA's Aroostook County Task Force has been conducting an investigation into the distribution of cocaine in the area, according to Commander Peter Arno. This investigation allegedly included the undercover purchase of cocaine from 48-year-old Travis Hewitt.
Drug agents executed a search warrant Monday afternoon at Hewitt's home on the River Road in Caribou. During the warrant, agents said they seized about two ounces of cocaine with a street value of $6000, approximately $10,000 in cash, three firearms and other evidence consistent with drug trafficking.
Hewitt was charged with trafficking in cocaine. and was transported to the Caribou Police Department where he later made bail.
His initial court appearance has been scheduled for Thursday in Caribou Superior Court.
Assisting MDEA during this investigation was the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations and the Caribou Police Department.
