A 57-year-old man escaped injury when his car struck a moose Tuesday evening on Route 11, just below Masardis.

Maine State Police say Robert Harmon of Chester was driving north in T8-R5 shortly before 5 p.m. when a moose ran out into the roadway. Due to the snow-covered road, Harmon was not able to avoid hitting the animal, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Clark.

Harmon was wearing his seat belt and was not injured in the crash, Clark said.

The moose was killed in the collision and Harmon’s 2014 Hyundai sustained extensive front end damage. The car was towed from the scene.
