The blaze was reported around 2:30 p.m. Capt. Vince Baldwin said nine firefighters, one forest ranger and several civilians worked together to extinguish the fire before it reached a barn and the wood line.

The fire charred a total of 6.8 acres of field.

Presque Isle received mutual aid from the Caribou Fire Department to cover the station.

Baldwin said the fire started after the owner disposed of wood ashes out back on his property at 2160 Chapman Road. The owner was given a warning from the Forest Ranger for improper disposal of lighted materials.

The brush fire near the Presque Isle line was less than 2 miles west of Aroostook State Park.
