The Bridgewater Fire Department was dispatched to the Packard Road just after midnight Wednesday to investigate what the resident reported as a smoke alarm going off in the basement.

Crews arrived to discover the owner’s sump pump had failed and a high water alarm was the source of the alert, according to Public Information Officer Matthew Powers. The department stayed on scene until a plumber arrived to address the issue.

Powers said the Bridgewater Fire Department is encouraging all homeowners to keep a vigilant eye on basement water levels, as the water table in Aroostook County is still quite high.

Further information about water levels in the County can be found by following local media and reports from the Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency.
