The body of Jacob Caldwell was recovered shortly after 11:00 a.m. Sunday, according to Lt. Thomas Ward of the Maine Warden Service. The Presque Isle Police Department had received a call at about 2:30 a.m. reporting three men had gone into the lake after their canoe capsized about 50 yards from shore.  Lt. Ward said two Presque Isle men, both aged 25, were able to swim to safety.

Wardens were called to the scene, and as soon as it was light enough to see, they used an aircraft to scan the lake for Caldwell. The pilot spotted what appeared to be the missing man’s body, but strong winds hampered the recovery efforts, Ward said.

Warden service divers recovered Caldwell’s body in about 4-5 feet of water about a half mile from where the canoe had capsized. It's not clear what the men had been doing on the lake at that time of night.
