Aroostook County Man Dies in Snowmobile Accident [UPDATE]
A 32-year-old Stockholm man died in a snowmobile accident in New Sweden Saturday night.
The Maine Warden Service reports John Anderson died instantly in the crash along ITS 83 at about 9 p.m. He was found by a companion, 27-year-old Reighel Waugh of Caribou. The two had been out riding all day and were returning to her Caribou home when Anderson's snowmobile drifted to the left side of the trail near the East Road Intersection in New Sweden, according to Cpl. John MacDonald.
The snowmobile struck several trees and Anderson was killed instantly, MacDonald said. Anderson and his snowmobile were found about 200 feet from where the crash occurred.
Wardens said speed appeared to be a factor. The accident remains under investigation.
The Maine Warden Service was assisted by the Maine State Police and Caribou emergency rescue personnel.
