Did You Get a Maine Antlerless Deer Permit? Here’s How to Check
The lottery is complete and the winners of Maine's 2023 Antlerless Deer Permits have been posted. Are you one of them?
Where Can We Find the Winners' Names?
This is an exciting time for Maine outdoorsmen (and women). Fishing season is still going strong and the start of hunting season is on the horizon. This is especially true in my house because my husband is a bow hunter, so the season starts earlier than firearm season. Whenever he's alone, I know Jim will be watching hunting videos, this time of year, as he gears up for the hunt.
Today, hunters all over the state are looking into whether they won an antlerless deer permit in today's lottery drawing. Applications for the permits were accepted between June 27th and August 1st, 2023 on the website for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Tuesday morning, the winners were drawn and their names are posted on the site, including in which district they can use the permit and whether or not they got a superpack. A superpack winner will be allowed to legally hunt and register a second antlerless deer, that can be taken during the regular archery/crossbow, firearm, or muzzleloader season.
Are Permits for the Winners Free?
Once a hunter has won an antlerless permit, they have until 11:59 pm on September 12th, 2023 to claim and pay for their permit. It's $12 for the permit and $2 for an agent fee, and they can be claimed on the DIF&W website.
Is There a Way to Buy an Antlerless Permit Online?
If you didn't win a permit in the lottery, that's okay. There will be some for sale online, beginning on September 19th, 2023. If you did win a permit through the lottery, you can still buy an extra permit at that time, as well. These are sold on a first-come first-served basis, so it's a good idea to get in there early.
