Police say a 20-year-old woman whose car crashed into the Meduxnekeag River outside Woodstock early Friday morning is facing charges.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m., the Woodstock RCMP was called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Bell Settlement Road in Red Bridge. A white Hyundai had left the road and plunged into the Meduxnekeag River.

When police arrived, the car was completely submerged, according to Constable Deric Blondin. Two women in the vehicle were able to safely get out of the car and were uninjured.

A 20-year-old woman from Woodstock was arrested at the scene and released pending a future court appearance.  RCMP did not say what the specific charges are, but stated alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation is continuing.
