The Husson Eagles fell to the Western New England Golden Bears by a score of 44 to 27 in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Quarterback Anthony Service passed for 234 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, while rushing for another score.  Dante Aiken had 99 yards on 23 carries, with two TDs in the win for the Golden Bears.

Husson was led by Cory Brandon who threw for 308 yards and four touchdowns, but had two interceptions.  John Smith led the Eagles in rushing with 107 yards.

WNE got out first in the contest with a five yard touchdown pass to Trent Vasey from Service with 8:57 left on the clock.  The Eagles would take possession and answer back in the waning seconds of the first to tie the game on a 44 yard pass to Deon Wiggins from Cory Brandon.

The second quarter would feature more scoring as each team answered back the oppositions’ score as the Golden Bears had a touchdown from Service on a 55 yard run and Kadem Edge received and took home a pass for 85 yards to even the game at 14 at the half.

The second half would be all Western New England as the Golden Bears outscored Husson 30-13, including 20 points in the fourth quarter.  Dante Atken scored twice in the fourth to seal the game for the Golden Bears.

The loss means the end of the season for the Eagles who finish the year with a 9-2 record overall.  WNE stayed undefeated with the win and will face Alfred in the second round of the postseason next weekend.
