A Bridgewater homeowner, who failed to obtain a burn permit, lost control of a fire over the weekend, as winds picked up later in the day.

According to Matthew Powers, Training Officer and Public Information Officer with the Bridgewater Fire Department, the Bridgewater Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire on the Bootfoot Road Saturday afternoon after it got out of control.

Flames were quickly extinguished by an 8-man fire crew who used their newly acquired side-by-side outfitted with a wildland suppression unit to quench the flames.

The Maine Forestry Service arrived as suppression was winding down, and dealt with the permit compliance issue with the homeowner.

The Bridgewater Fire Department wants to remind everyone that burn permits are required for open burns in Maine. Permits can be obtained from local Fire Wardens or their designees.
