Bangor's Jesse Speirs birdied three of the final five holes and fired a 4-under par 67 on day one of PGA Web.com Tournament in Brazil.

The fourth event on the tour is at the Sao Paulo Golf Course in Brazil. It is a $700,000 total purse with the winner earning $126,000.

Speirs made three birdies but two bogeys on the front side but the back side was much better with birdies on #10, #14, #16 and #18.

The first round score of 4-under puts Speirs tied for 24th place with some golfers still on the course.

So far, he has missed the cut in all three Web.com Tour events. Those tourneys have been held in Panama, Columbia and Louisiana.

Speirs is a former winner of the Maine Amateur Junior Tournament, the Maine State Amateur Championship and the Greater Bangor Open Tournament.
