Voters of School Administrative District #1 went to the polls Tuesday to approve or reject the school budget for the 2017-2018 year.

The proposed budget was overwhelmingly approved, with  327 "yes" votes to 153 "no" votes.

The budget was approved at the district budget meeting back on April 12th. According to WAGM-TV, since the budget passed at the district meeting, it was required that the budget go to a validation vote which meant voters going to the polls in the five member communities including Presque Isle, Mapleton, Chapman, Castle Hill, and Westfield.

Those headed to the polls Tuesday were also asked to vote on whether there should be a school validation votes in the future.
