Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez is now unlikely to start opening day because a MRI reveals something is wrong in his right elbow.

Manager John Farrell would only say the MRI showed "something" in his Vazquez' right elbow, his throwing arm and that a second opinion would be sought.

Farrell also said he "couldn't imagine" Vazquez being ready for opening day.

That means Ryan Hannigan moves into the starting catcher role with either young Blake Swihart or veteran Humberto Quintero as backup.

NOTE:  The Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-6 Saturday afternoon. Mike Napoli blasted a 2-run homer and Hanley Ramirez had two RBI.

Opening day for the Sox is April 6th in Philadelphia.
