Update on Ruby Tuesdays Closures: Three Close, Seven Stay Open

The Ruby Tuesday Maine restaurants at the Bangor Mall, in South Portland, and in Biddeford have closed as part of a nearly 100-restaurant company-wide downsizing. Seven other Maine Ruby Tuesday locations - including perhaps somewhat surprisingly, given location and traffic demographics - the restaurant in Presque Isle, remain open for now. 

Ruby Tuesday announced last week that it planned to close at least 95 of its more than 700 restaurants nationwide by September after its company shares dropped almost in half over the past year. The company this summer sold its remaining Lime Fresh Mexican Grill restaurants to EverFresh Endeavors for $4.6 million, and to Rubio’s Restaurants Inc for $6 million, respectively.

The Ruby Tuesday restaurants in Brewer, Waterville, Augusta, Auburn, Topsham, Westbrook and Presque Isle remain open. The Presque Isle location at The Aroostook Centre Mall is the only Ruby Tuesday in northern Maine.

The chain is laying off employees at the shuttered locations.
