Literacy is a skill that many of us take for granted, but has been shown to be a necessary tool to achieve a good quality of life. By providing the tools to achieve literacy at a young age we are hoping to prepare children for school and  therefore success later in life.

The BOOK IT! for Reading 5 K Walk/Run is being held the afternoon of October 8th at Mantle Lake Park.

Book It! for Reading” has been founded to promote a lifelong love of reading and help the United Way of Aroostook  fund the literacy programs that we provide to Aroostook County youth. Currently the United Way is providing books to over 1,900 Aroostook County youth monthly through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. In addition they also provided summer reading materials to nearly 100 local students in their Summer Slide pilot program.  They are hoping to grow both programs to reach even more children as results show these programs are working.

By participating in the 5k or Kids Fun Run at “Book It! for Reading” not only are you showing support for the United Way of Aroostook, but you are bringing awareness to the importance of literacy.
