The University of Maine men's and women's basketball teams fell in out-of-conference games versus Buffalo and Boston College respectively to close out the 2016 calendar year.

The men's side lost to the Bulls by a 79-60 score on Friday evening, while the women's team closed out their out-of-conference slate with a matinee loss versus the Eagles by a score of 64-53.

Buffalo 79-60 Maine Men's Basketball

The Black Bears lost on the road to the Bulls on Saturday night.  Austin Howard led the team with 18 points for UMaine while freshman Andrew Fleming had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

There is one final game for the Black Bears before conference play as they face the Columbia Lions on January 2nd at the Cross Insurance Center.  Tip-off in that one versus the Lions is set for 2 p.m.   America East play begins for Maine on Thursday evening with a home contest on Thursday evening.

Boston College 64-53 Maine Women's Basketball

The Black Bears rallied back, but never could complete the comeback versus the Eagles on Friday afternoon.  Fanny Wadling and Julie Brosseau led the way with 11 points, while Blanca Millan and Isabel Hernandez Pepe also chipped in with double digits.  Sigi Koizar had just 2 points in 12 minutes for the Bears.

UMaine will now head to America East conference play on Wednesday as they travel to face the Vermont Catamounts.
