The reigning America East regular season champion University of Maine women's basketball team was selected to finish in third place in the conference preseason poll that was released on Thursday.

The Black Bears have won at least a share of the regular season title in back-to-back seasons and had 26 victories a year ago during the 2015-16 campaign.  Maine lost to UAlbany in the championship game last season by a point, but was selected to represent the conference in the WNIT.

The Great Danes of Albany were selected to finish first overall with 60 points (five first place votes), followed by UMBC with 53 points (two first place votes) and the Black Bears with 51 points (two first place votes).

UMaine is returning four letterwinners from a season ago, including last season's leading scorer Sigi Koizar, who was selected to the preseason All-Conference First Team.  The Black Bears tip-off the regular season with a game against Purdue on November 11th in Bangor.
