The University of Maine baseball team advanced to the next round of the America East tournament after besting the UMBC Retrievers by a score of 11-1 in an elimination game on Wednesday night.

The Black Bears came out swinging in the second game of the evening and were able to complete the victory with a solid performance by John Arcel on the mound.  Arcel went eight innings and allowed one unearned run, while striking out 11 Retrievers batters in the contest. Maine came up just short in the team’s first game of the America East tournament, losing on a walk-off home run by Bobby Honeyman.  The Black Bears pitched well in the contest after Logan Fullmer left the contest in the middle innings with a muscle strain.

The Black Bears will play the loser of the of one of the earlier match-ups in the winner’s bracket and need to win each contest to stay alive for the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
