Camden Hills high school golfer Cole Anderson shot a 2-over par 72 at the first round of the U.S. Amateur Championship in California.

That scores puts him in a tie for 61st place out of 312 competitors after day one. There is a logjam of 36 players tied at +2.

Three players are tied for the lead at 6-under par.

Anderson birdied two of the last three holes to get to 2-over for the day. He finished his round with three birdies, five bogeys and 10 pars at Bel-Air Country Club.

Today he will be play the Riviera Country Club (11:13am ET tee time) and has a shot at making the top-64 and advancing to match play on Wednesday.

Anderson will be a junior at Camden Hills this fall.
