State Police say that two Glenburn men wanted for robbing a medical marijuana patient in Winterport, Maine turned themselves in Wednesday night.

Jeff Hurd and Scott Roberts walked into the lobby of the Waldo County Jail in Belfast at about 9 p.m. and surrendered to police, according to Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland. They had been dropped off at the jail and are cooperating.

Police say on September 21, three men showed up on the property of a medical marijuana patient in Winterport. Two were dressed in black SWAT team gear and one was wearing a sheriff’s office uniform and brandishing a handgun. Following a verbal confrontation with the owner, the thieves allegedly grabbed an armful of marijuana and fled on foot.

Hurd and Roberts were identified after Maine State Police released surveillance camera photos to the public on Monday.  Both men had prior convictions.

McCausland said a third man involved in the Winterport marijuana robbery is now known and an arrest warrant for him will likely be issued this week.

Three medical marijuana growing operations in Maine have been targeted by thieves in the past few weeks.

A grower in Standish was hospitalized after police say two men attacked him and sprayed him with pepper spray in an attempt to steal his marijuana plants.
