WCSH-TV reports that firefighters said that the Rumford building had working smoke alarms but no sprinklers.

Firefighters told the TV station that the cause of the Saturday fire appears accidental but remains under investigation.

The TV station reports the fire began in an apartment on the front side of the second floor when about 12 people were inside of the complex.

The American Red Cross of Maine said it is working to provide 22 people with food, housing and other essentials.

The Mexico Fire Department help respond to the fire and told The Associated Press that they were not aware of injuries.

Rumford firefighters were on scene Sunday morning.
