Feb. 16 - Trooper Stoutamyer responded to Rt 1A in Hamlin for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer and a car.  The 2011 Freightliner tractor trailer hauling an empty log trailer met a southbound Ford car operated by a Van Buren man.  The two vehicles collided head on with the tractor trailer driving over the front of the car and the car then coming to rest under the trailer.  The truck is owned by D.H Giberson and Sons of Arthurette, New Brunswick.

The operator and passenger in the car had to be extricated from the wreckage by Van Buren Fire Dept. utilizing their Jaws of Life.  The male and female in the front seat were transported with serious injuries and an infant in the back seat was not injured.  Trooper Stoutamyer was assisted at the scene by Trooper Andrew Levesque and Trooper Robert Flynn.  At the time of the accident there was zero visibility with blowing and drifting snow, which was a significant factor in the accident. Rt 1A was closed down for approximately 3 hours while the accident was investigated and the vehicles were removed.  The Freightliner sustained damage to the front of the truck, the Ford Fusion was totaled in the crash.

Feb. 16 - Trooper Michaud was on Route 1 in Presque Isle at approximately midnight when a vehicle pulled up behind, and passed his unmarked cruiser at 92 MPH.  Trooper Michaud was able to stop the vehicle and arrested the 21-year-old operator for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and Criminal Speed.  He was also ticketed for not having an inspection sticker.

Feb. 16 and Feb. 20 - Troop F experienced snowstorms coupled with high winds with whiteout conditions and causing accidents and several vehicles to go off the road.  There were several partial and full road closures around the Troop with the main arteries of Rt. 1 and Rt.1A down to one lane at times with snowdrifts blocking travel.  Several secondary roads that were shut down altogether due to plows not being able to keep the roads open due to the drifting snow.

Feb. 17 - Trooper Saucier covered an unattended death of a 39-year-old Sherman woman.  Nothing was suspicious at the scene and the boyfriend's account suggested a sudden heart related issue.  The woman had health issues and was a daily methadone patient.  An autopsy was performed and the results are pending.

Feb. 18 &19 - Trooper Sylvia provided a block of instruction at the RTT on search warrants and participated in a search warrant practical exercise.

Feb. 19 - Trooper Bell and Trooper Saucier responded to 95 South in New Limerick for a crash involving 4 passenger vehicles and 3 tractor trailer units.  One male was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with head, chest, and knee injuries.  All 4 passenger vehicles and 1 tractor trailer unit were towed due to extensive damage.  Snow covered roads and low visibility were a factor in the crash.

Feb. 20 - Trooper Dan Marquis responded to a residence in Eagle Lake for a family fight.  As a result, Trooper Marquis arrested a 29-year-old Eagle Lake man for Domestic Assault (with priors) and Obstructing the Report of a Crime.  The male was also charged with Simple Assault for assaulting another subject in the residence.  The male was taken to Caribou PD and a probation hold was placed on him.  A 40-year-old female from Eagle Lake was also arrested at the residence for an outstanding warrant. Trooper Marquis was assisted at the scene by Warden Jeff Spencer as well as Sergeant Matt Cummings of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.

Feb. 20 - Trooper Stoutamyer responded to Mapleton for a report of an assault, after investigation male subject was arrested for domestic assault.

Feb. 20 - Trooper Sylvia responded to Bridgewater for a motor vehicle crash.  Daniel Thibeault, age 51 of Lewiston, and family were traveling southbound on Route 1 in Bridgewater when his 2014 Toyota Tacoma got stuck in a snow drift at the top of Bunker Hill.  Thibeault’s vehicle had just gotten unstuck with assistance from a nearby resident when his vehicle was struck by a 2007 Toyota Corrolla, operated by Brandon Greaves, age 30 of Littleton, who was also traveling southbound and could not see Thibeault’s vehicle due to the whiteout conditions.  One passenger from Thibeault’s vehicle and one passenger from Greaves’ vehicle were transported by ambulance to the Houlton Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  Photos of Bridgewater Crash Here

Rt. 1 traffic was shut down for approximately 3 hours while the accident was investigated and the cars were removed from the scene, causing a long backup of both south and northbound traffic.  MDOT plow trucks were called in to plow the drifting snow from the roadway in the area and also treat the roadway due to several tractor trailers that were not able to travel up the hill due to the icy roads.

Feb. 21 - Trooper Jared Sylvia charged a 54-year-old male from Mapleton with Violation of Bail after the male contacted the victim of a domestic crime from 2-20-15.  Trooper Stoutamyer had arrested the male and transported him to ACJ. The male contacted the female victim by phone from the jail.  He was re-arrested and charged accordingly.

Feb. 21 - Trooper Tim Saucier investigated a credit card fraud complaint.  A male subject received a credit card in the mail in the amount of $25,000. Investigation is ongoing.

Troop F of the Maine State Police is responsible for Aroostook County and the extreme northern sections of Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties.
