Michael Bay Goes Medieval on Official ‘Transformers 5’ Title
What, you didn’t think Michael Bay would actually give his new Transformers sequel a silly title like Transformers 5, did you? Of course not. As with its predecessors, the next installment in the franchise has been given a lengthier, more regal name, and is now officially titled Transformers: The Last Knight. Arise, Sir Optimus Prime.
The official Instagram for Transformers: The Last Knight launched not long after Paramount sent out a press release regarding the new title:
When is Optimus Prime not ready for battle? Here’s a better question: What does Optimus Prime do in his downtime — you know, when he’s not fighting Decepticons? I assume there are times when he’s not actively engaged in war with those guys.
Michael Bay returns to direct Transformers: The Last Knight, with Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg reprising his role as Cade Yeager opposite series newcomers Isabela Moner (Growing Up Fisher) and Jerrod Carmichael (Neighbors).
Production begins on June 6 in Detroit, and while Paramount has yet to release official plot details, we do know that Wahlberg’s going to have a much tougher time in the sequel, as Optimus Prime has disappeared off into space to find the creators of the Autobots and Decepticons.
Transformers: The Last Knight is being written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) with Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down), and hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
