On Tuesday, July 7th the VA Maine Healthcare System will be conducting an “Active Threat Response” training exercise in conjunction with public safety agencies in the area at its Caribou Community Based Outreach Clinic at Cary Medical Center.

This training exercise will focus on VA staff response to an active shooter incident using a unified approach.  In addition to VA staff, Caribou Police, Caribou Fire & Ambulance, Cary Medical Center and Aroostook County Emergency Management will be participating.

The public can expect to see increased public safety traffic in that area in the morning and should not be alarmed by it.  We ask that people avoid this area if possible during the exercise.

This training exercise will help to continue to prepare for a potential critical incident that we hope never occurs at the facility.
