State Police say a 52-year-old man suffered serious injuries after the tractor trailer he was driving flipped over on Route 1 in Bridgewater late Monday.

Bakhron Matchanov of Pennsylvania was southbound in a 2007 Volvo tractor trailer loaded with recyclable plastic around 4:30 p.m. State police say Matchanov became distracted and lost control when his truck tires got in the soft shoulder. The rig went off the road, clipping a utility pole as it flipped onto its side.

Matchanov was wearing a seat belt, but suffered serious back injuries in the crash.

The truck, which is owned by Real Trucking of Illinois, sustained significant damage.  Route 1 was shut down for approximately 2 hours while the truck was towed from the site and the damaged telephone pole was replaced.

Troopers Clark and Michaud and Sgt. Chad Fuller of the Maine State Police responded to the accident.
