Maine State Police say a tractor trailer carrying paper rolled over and struck a bridge Thursday morning on Route 27 in Coburn Gore, near the border crossing into Quebec.

Trooper Andrew Hardy said the driver of the truck lost control about 6 a.m. on a curve and the truck struck a guard rail.  The trailer portion then struck the bridge abutment, splitting the trailer in half. The trailer and much of its load of paper ended up in a stream.

The crash took place near the town line of Chain of Ponds, according to Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

The driver of the truck, 47-year-old Scott Theriault of Strong, Maine was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington with minor injuries. The truck was owned by TT Dunphy Inc, of North Anson was headed north to Quebec.

The road was shut down for more than an hour before a nearby logger used his equipment to move the overturned truck in the road and got traffic moving along one lane. The big rig was demolished. No charges were filed.

State Police, and inspectors from the Maine Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Protection responded to the scene.

McCausland said cleanup operations were underway Thursday to remove bundles of paper that spilled all over the roadway and into the stream.
