GSA Boys Claim Third-Straight State Title [BOYS]

George Stevens Academy senior guard Taylor Schildroth scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half and Eagles three-peat the Class C state championship with a 64-59 win over Hall-Dale Saturday night.

Schildroth hit on five three-pointers, tying a state game record for three-pointers in a state game.

Stefan Simmons had 14 and Max Mattson had 10

GSA lost its first regular season game and then ripped off 22 straight wins.

Monmouth Claims Back-To-Back State Title Win Win Over Houlton [GIRLS]

Monmouth Academy wins the Class C state championship, beating Houlton 56-50. It's back-to-back titles for the Mustangs.

Momouth also set a Class C record for three-pointers, hitting nine threes. Senior Tia day had four of them. She finished with 14 points.

Abby Allen led with 15.

Houlton's Kollen Bouchard scored 35 and finished her career with 2,046 points.

Greenville Wins First State Basketball Title Since 1954 [BOYS]

The Greenville Lakers boy's basketball team defeated Woodland in a one-point thriller Saturday at the Augusta Civic Center, claiming the school's first state title in more than 60 years.

With Greenville leading 47-46 with just seven seconds remaining, senior Nick Foley had a chance to extend the Lakers' lead but missed the front end of a 1-and-1 opportunity. After Woodland got the rebound, junior Gavin Gardner had a chance to win the game with an open look at a three-pointer at the buzzer. Gardner couldn't connect, and Greenville won its first state basketball title since 1954.

Southern Aroostook Girls Win Class D Title [GIRLS]

The Southern Aroostook girls' basketball team downed Vinalhaven 54-37 Saturday at the Augusta Civic Center to win its first Class D state title since 1995.

Four players reached double figures in scoring for the Warriors as the team handed Vinalhaven its first loss of the season. Freshman center Kacy Daggett scored a team-high 12 points for Southern Aroostook. Junior Kassidy Mathers chipped in 11 points, and sophomore Sydney Brewer and junior Kylie Vining each scored 10 points.

The Vikings were led by senior center Gilleyanne Davis-Oakes, who scored a game-high 17 points.

Southern Aroostook, the north region's top seed, finishes the season at 20-2.

Vinalhaven, the No. 1 seed out of the south region, finishes at 21-1

Hermon Caps Perfect Season With State Title [BOYS]

The Hermon Hawks capped their perfect season with a state championship, running away from the Wells Warriors Friday night for the first gold ball for boys basketball in school history.

The Hawks, who finish the season at 22-0, defeated Wells 55-34 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Senior Jacob Godfrey had a monster game, scoring 21 points and dominating the paint.

Cody Hawes had 11 points and Isaac Varney had 10 points for Hermon.

Hermon had little trouble with the south champion Wells, who, under intense pressure from the Hawks' defense, struggled offensively throughout the night. >>FULL STORY>>

Winslow Defeats Lake Region To Claim Class B State Title [GIRLS]

The Winslow Black Raiders used their stifling defense to hold the Lake Region Lakers in check and come away with the Class B state title Friday night in Bangor.

The gold ball capped the Black Raiders' Cinderella run, entering the tournament as the No. 6 seed in the north and upsetting higher seeds all along the way.

When the buzzer sounded, Winslow came away with a 43-29 win and its first state title since 2005.

Senior Haley Ward led the Black Raiders with 12 points. Junior Weslee Littlefield added seven in the contest at the Cross Insurance Center.

Greely Holds Off Hampden Academy In Thriller To Win State Crown [BOYS]

The Greely Rangers held off a late charge form the Hampden Academy Broncos to claim the Class A crown at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

The Broncos' late-game comeback came one point short, as they fell to Greely 47-46 Thursday night.

With the game tied at 46, senior Shane DeWolfe hit a free throw for the Rangers with five seconds left on the clock.

A desperation thee pointer from Hampden fell short at the buzzer.

The Broncos fell behind early, but finished the first half strong on a 5-0 run to pull the score to 29-19 at the break. The Broncos chipped away a the lead and tied the game with one minute to play. >>FULL STORY>>

Greely Handles Hampden Academy To Claim State Title [GIRLS]

The Greely Rangers defeated the Hampden Broncos 53-38 Thursday night to claim the Class A state title.

After falling behind 6-0 at the outset of the game, Greely pressed the Broncos, took control and pulled away with a 27-2 run. The Rangers didn't look back in claiming their first Class state title at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

Brooke Obar had 17 points for Greely. Anna DeWolfe had 16 points.

For Hampden, junior Bailey Donovan led the Broncos with 13 points.
