Gobble gobble! Turkey hunters in Maine have lots to be excited about this year, as today is opening day for the turkey hunting season.

This year there are a few new rules and regulations. Turkey hunters in Maine will get a longer hunting season this year and in a bigger area of the state than ever before.

And the best perk of all? Hunters can also take up to two turkeys this season.

Did you know that after being nearly extinct, the birds were reintroduced into Maine in the 1970s and can now be found in all 16 counties? It's true!

Fall turkey hunting season runs from today through November 1st.
