Respect is a big thing in Canada, and so is honoring those who have served their country. Canadians take great pride in their country, with good reason.

Today is the last Friday of the month of October, and it marks the start of the Poppy Campaign in Canada. Many folks wear artificial poppies on their clothes in the weeks before Remembrance Day.

Why poppies, you ask? Well, red poppies symbolize the memory of those who died and white poppies campaigns for non-military interventions in conflict situations.

On Remembrance Day, which happens to be November 11th, special church services are held with special songs hymns and verses are read, followed by two minutes silence at 11am. After the service, wreaths are laid at local war memorials.

Schools that are open on Remembrance Day often hold special assemblies and have lessons and presentations on armed conflicts and those who died in them.
