Thursday, April 25th is “National Take Your Daughter/Son to Work Day.”  I’ll admit that I’ve never participated in this relatively new past time.  I have a daughter who will be a teenager next month.  Do I really want to take her to work?  On the other hand I have three sons ages ten, five and three; do I want them at work?  Yes and no!

I want them to see what Dad does for a living because it is pretty cool sometimes.  I want them to get a sense of the responsibility it takes to go to work, earn a wage and help to put food on the table.  It can truly be a bonding experience and I’d love to share that with any one of my children.  Do I want to glorify my line of work in the hopes that one day they may want to enter the world of radio?  Absolutely not, they’re going to be doctors.

It’s true that the industry that I’m in has changed over time, but what industry hasn’t?  That being said, what I really want them to see is how and why their Dad does what he does.  True it may have started as something that I excelled at and became comfortable with, but ultimately it’s for them.  Taking my kids to work will show them why Dad has to be away some of the time.  Now, will I do it?  Are you kidding?  I won’t get anything done!
