Maine State Police say three people have been shot to death and a fourth person wounded in shootings Wednesday morning at several points along Russell Road in Madison.

Somerset County Deputies confronted the gunman and he was shot and killed, according to a news release from Public Safety spokesman Steve Mccausland. No police officers were injured.

A team of State Police detectives is investigating the shootings, along with the Sheriff’s Office. The State Attorney General’s Office has also sent a group of investigators to the scene to review the shots fired by the deputies.

The shootings were reported just after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Russell Road in Madison is closed to traffic near the shooting scenes and likely to remain closed for the remainder of the day.
