Three people were taken to the hospital Sunday evening after a car collided with a dune buggy on Route 1 in Monticello.

State Police say 27-year-old Josiah Nash of Blaine was traveling south on Route 1 in a 1965 Volkswagon Dune Buggy at around 6:30 p.m.  According to Trooper Nick Casavant, 71-year-old  Barbara Watson of Monticello was northbound in a 2002 Ford Taurus and was attempting to turn left onto Silver Street when the vehicles collided.

Nash and his passenger, 29-year-old Adam Grant of Bridgewater were thrown from the dune buggy.  All three individuals were transported by Houlton Ambulance to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.  Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash.

Trooper Jillian Monahan responded to the accident and was assisted at the scene by other members of the Maine State Police, Aroostook County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Border Patrol and Monticello Fire Department.
