Fires have destroyed homes in Madawaska, Island Falls and New Denmark since Christmas Eve.

The Madawaska, Grand Isle and Edmundston Fire Departments battled a blaze at 23rd Avenue on Wednesday evening. A dog was lost in that fire. The raised ranch home with attached garage owned by Jolyn and Fran Michaud is considered a total loss, The couple were insured. The Michauds had left home about a half hour before the fire was reported. An excavator has cleared the site. Madawaska Fire Chief James Soucy says the home was heated by pellet stove, but a cause is still under investigation

A couple is staying with relatives after a fire on Christmas Day destroyed their home in New Denmark, New Brunswick. The Canadian Red Cross says the couple was away visiting friends when the blaze gutted their Bogan Road home near Grand Falls. The Red Cross says it has helped the couple with emergency purchases of clothing, food, and other essentials. More details are not yet available.

And a young couple in Island Falls lost their home to fire Christmas morning. The Island Falls Fire Department says Travis and Chelsea Casey's home burned to the ground. Christmas presents for the couple's 4-year-old, Lily, and 12-month-old, Noah, were destroyed. Friends and family in the Oakfield, Patten and Island Falls area have set up a GoFundMe account to help the Caseys and their children. The cause of the fire is under investigation,
