Three Adults, One Child Injured in High Speed Crash in Caribou

Three adults suffered multiple injuries and one child sustained minor injuries after a car went off the Access Highway in Caribou Monday evening.

Caribou Police responded to the accident near the Grimes Road intersection at approximately 7:34 p.m. after receiving numerous 911 calls. Officers arrived to find a 2002 silver Buick LeSabre in the ditch.

According to the Caribou Police Department, the driver, 30-year-old Joseph Poisson of Limestone, was  traveling east on Route 89 at a high rate of speed and went into the ditch just before the Grimes Road. Police say the vehicle then went airborne several times before ending up in a wooded area on the other side of the road.

There were five other people in the car, including three children, police say. All three adults sustained multiple injuries in the crash and were transported by Caribou Fire and Ambulance to Cary Medical Center. One child sustained minor injuries.

Police say the adults were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Caribou Police Department is being assisted by the Maine Warden Service.
