There was pomp, there was ceremony, there were a few tears, and there were a few laughs. Janet Mills was sworn in as Maine's 75th chief executive and first woman Governor on Wednesday night at the Augusta Civic Center, and Mainers by the thousands poured out to see history being made.

From the traditional proclamation of the election of the new Governor to the oaths and invocations, everything seemed pretty predictable for an inauguration, until 11-year-old Shy Paca and 10-year-old Natalia Mbadu hit the stage. Just before Janet Mills gave her inaugural speech, the two young woman sang "Girl on Fire" by Alicia Keys, and the place exploded.
